Austin 48 Hour Film Project - Free Rein Films
Summer 2019, my friends and I participated in Austin’s 48 Hour Film Project - a competition to see who could produce the best film within an assigned genre utilizing a few required elements within 48 hours. One chaotic, exhausting, and fun weekend later, we made Method, which can be seen above.
We were nominated for several awards, and even won a few - including First Runner Up for the overall contest.
Theatre Production
Properties Management.
As a properties manager, I would organize, maintain, and occasionally construct props for actors onstage. Doing so required a familiarity with the (typically chaotic) props storage, organizational skills onset, and a certain kind of out-of-the-box creativity when it came to the more odd props necessities.
Productions include:
An Evening of Edgar Allen Poe - Texas Lutheran University, October 2017
The Fantasticks - Texas Lutheran University, September 2017 (Properties Assistant)
Just Add Zombies - San Jacinto College, October 2016
Lorna’s Love Lost - San Jacinto College, September 2016
Stage Management.
One of the roles I enjoyed doing most in theatre was stage manager. It required me to be in contact with the various departments (set, props, costumes, lighting, sound, etc.), making sure everything was going smoothly in production, keeping rehearsals on track, and reporting anything and everything to the directors and faculty. It goes without saying that organization and communication is key, and I feel that I was able to fill this role successfully for several productions.
Productions include:
Machinal - Texas Lutheran University, October 2018
Othello - Texas Lutheran University, February 2018 (Assistant Stage Manager)
All in the Timing - San Jacinto College, February 2017
Santa’s Christmas Magic - San Jacinto College, December 2016
Dramaturgy.
When a script calls for a certain time period or a certain faithfulness to a design concept, directors might be inclined to put the extra effort into research for the production. That’s where dramaturgy comes in - it’s essentially research into the specifics of a script, be it time periods, locations, etc. What does a typical wardrobe look like in colonial America? What kinds of tools would this craftsman have in the 1800s? Is this particular character choice appropriate for this kind of social status? I love doing this kind of research for productions, even if I rarely get to do so.
Productions include:
The Crucible - Texas Lutheran University, February 2019
John Terry - Justice of the Peace.
For my Dramatic Media for Social Change class in Spring 2018, I worked to produce and edit the campaign ad for John Terry’s run-off election campaign. The ad was posted and shared through Facebook, and while I have no idea how much it impacted the election, he did win and currently serves as Justice of the Peace in Precinct 3 of Guadelupe County.
