Why get a degree in Digital Media Production?
Production ins and outs.
My primary work in undergraduate was in theatre, learning more about the film process in my latter 2 years of undergrad. One of my reasons for going for my master’s degree was to get more hands-on and in-depth into film production beyond what was taught in undergraduate. Quite honestly, it feels like the same language, just a different dialect, but the formal training is important to me.

Honing skills.
While 2 years of some film-related coursework isn’t insignificant, I feel like my current body of work is up to the standards it should be at. By taking masters level courses, I hope to build upon and improve the skills I have, and bring up the standards of my work.

Producing for digital media.
New media isn’t just new - it’s the new norm. And because of that, it’s important to learn how to produce and work in the digital environment. Another key reason I’m pursuing my master’s is because, while a theatre/film hybrid degree provides a level of versitility, it hasn’t quite provided the level of knowledge I feel would be needed to go into a more digital media-minded field.

Social Media
Motion Graphics and Effects.
While I am familiar with several editing suites, prior to this course, AfterEffects was foreign territory to me. By the time my final project for the semester came around, I was able to successfully come up with a few unique introductory animations to a theoretical documentary series (as linked on the left), as well as a separate Mass Communications animation for a Social Media class, based on a classmate’s graphic design (linked on the right).
Advanced Pre-Production.
Completed a breakdown and budget for a full-length film script.
Social Media.
Created a social media analysis and future plan for the MCOM social media accounts with a team of my peers.
Digital Media Production.
Assisted in production of 3 student-written short films, one of which I served as editor for, and another I wrote the screenplay for.
And others.
My degree is still in progress! I still have many projects to finish before I graduate, including my capstone.
Before I came to SHSU…
I got my BFA at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, TX, through a hybrid theatre/film Dramatic Media program.
